kind of a mixed bagHonestly, I really wanted to like this book but a good 75% of it dragged。 A lot of the characters were easily forgettable, and at times I wished that the author just kept the series finished。 But the final quarter for sure gave me hope that this story was worth telling。

I didn't even know there was going to be more to the series!I seriously devoured reading The Maze Cutter。 The Maze Cutter had everything I enjoyed reading in The Maze Runner Series。 The writing style is very easy to read and follow。 I liked the good mix of sci-fi and thriller elements。 What's a Maze Runner novel without the characters?! Don't worry, there is still great characterization, and several characters with distinct personalities。I really liked the pacing of the plot, although I do feel I didn't even know there was going to be more to the series!I seriously devoured reading The Maze Cutter。 The Maze Cutter had everything I enjoyed reading in The Maze Runner Series。 The writing style is very easy to read and follow。 I liked the good mix of sci-fi and thriller elements。 What's a Maze Runner novel without the characters?! Don't worry, there is still great characterization, and several characters with distinct personalities。I really liked the pacing of the plot, although I do feel like it's the usual set up/loop of what one would expect to see in a Maze Runner novel。。。 (saying this in a factual manner)There were times where I was a bit lost, not due to unclear writing, but for the events where just a bit over the top and the setting the ground work for certain aspects of The Maze Cutter。 The Maze Cutter is a multiple perspective dystopian, and it is still easy to follow。 When the perspective changes, it is labeled。Overall, I felt The Maze Cutter was very well written and I would like to continue with the series。 I would highly recommend if you are a fan of The Maze Runner Series and the Dystopian/Zombie genre。 I would like to state, that I personally feel you don't necessarily have to have read The Maze Runner Series before reading The Maze Cutter。 If you were to read the series, or have read it beforehand, it just gives a special insight or know how, that's good to have, but not needed to be able to enjoy reading The Maze Cutter。 Yes, The Maze Cutter is listed as The Maze Runner number 6, but it is also a new series set within The Maze Runner Universe。Upon completion I learned of a novella, The Crank Palace, that I didn't know existed, that I'm interested in reading! 。。。more

As soon as I saw that James Dashner was continuing with the Maze Runner series there was no hesitation in getting this book。 I ran and immediately immersed myself in the book。 The Maze Runner series was so good, and I can see the potential of The Maze Cutter and all future books in this new series。 The Maze Cutter is set 73 years after the events of the Maze Runner series。 All of the participants of the Maze Runner are gone except for FryPan (he is almost 90)。 The readers are introduced to three As soon as I saw that James Dashner was continuing with the Maze Runner series there was no hesitation in getting this book。 I ran and immediately immersed myself in the book。 The Maze Runner series was so good, and I can see the potential of The Maze Cutter and all future books in this new series。 The Maze Cutter is set 73 years after the events of the Maze Runner series。 All of the participants of the Maze Runner are gone except for FryPan (he is almost 90)。 The readers are introduced to three different groups。 Members of the God Head who are based in Alaska, a group called the Remnant Nation (very similar to a cult) who are based somewhere in Nebraska and then the descendants of the original Gladers who are located on a remote island。 In the Maze Cutter we are introduced to the aftermath of the Flare and how the world survived。 The people living on the island are visited by a woman named Cletter who arrives in a boat。 She convinces a group to go back to California to help develop a cure for the Flare。 Upon their arrival the true adventure begins。 Members of the group end up kidnapped not once, but twice。 The God Head want the people of the Island as well as the members of the Remnant Nation。 The people of the island are now pawns in the ongoing feud between the God Head and the Remnant Nation。 Will they survive? The three groups are faced with death and misaligned plans and adventure。I was so excited to see the Maze Runner series continue even if it was 73 years later。 I liked the new introduction to the descendants to the original Gladers。 I really liked the character the orphan or better known as Minho and his friend Roxy。 They were the most fleshed out characters。 I really only felt for those characters and their well-being。 I wanted to learn more about them and their lives in the aftermath of the Flare。 I also liked that the book was told from different perspectives。 We were able to see diary entries from Newt, learn a little bit about the God Head from their point of view, The Remnant Nation from Minho's perspective, and see how the flare has impacted the survivors on the remote island。 Even though there were good things about the book there were also things that did not work。 I had a hard time continuing to read the book。 It took me forever to finish。 It felt slow at moments where I hoped there would be more action。 This book was supposed to set up the series but in reading I really only felt for Minho and Roxy。 There were backstories for characters that were told too late, and I was not able to develop connections。 There was less character development for the other characters。 I was always looking forward to seeing what Minho and Roxy were up to but not so much for the other characters。 I also felt like the book tells very little about the God Head。 The book was not fleshed out about them, who they are, how the group developed, how they came into power and their ultimate goal in finding the descendants from the Island。 I also wish there was more background story for the Remnant Nation。 The book gives minor details about the two groups at the very end of the story。 With all that being said I will probably look for the other books in the new Maze Cutter series。 The series has a lot of potential。 It could be just as good if not better than the original Maze Runner series。 I just hope the remainder of the series talks more about the people and the groups so we as readers can develop more connections。 And of course, I want ACTION。。。this is what James Dashner is known for as well as the Maze Runner Series。 Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC。 This is my honest opinion of The Maze Cutter by James Dashner 。。。more

I read the first two books in the original series about the time they came out, and I have recommended them for many, many students。 Thus, I was excited when I saw this new offering, taking place in the stories’ future。 Sadly, I was a little disappointed。 Unlike the earlier books, this just didn’t have anything that grabbed me or kept my attention。 It also felt like I was dropped into the middle of a story and since I hadn’t reread the older books (nor read all of them) it was confusing at times I read the first two books in the original series about the time they came out, and I have recommended them for many, many students。 Thus, I was excited when I saw this new offering, taking place in the stories’ future。 Sadly, I was a little disappointed。 Unlike the earlier books, this just didn’t have anything that grabbed me or kept my attention。 It also felt like I was dropped into the middle of a story and since I hadn’t reread the older books (nor read all of them) it was confusing at times and boring at times。 Other than “the orphan,” I honestly didn’t care about any of the characters and am unclear about how they fit into the big picture。 Maybe this book is just meant to be a set-up for the future ones, but I am not a fan of books that must exist within a series, I much prefer books that can be stand alone, but leave the reader wishing for more。 The whole plot line with the “godhead”? I must have missed something。 There’s a brief scene towards the end that seemed about to provide some context, but then it was dropped。 Alexandra was intriguing when first introduced but then … I have no idea what happened。 The ending scenes with her were disturbing and a bit too graphic。 Most of her scenes seemed like they were from a completely different novel。The descriptions of the settings were well done and I could picture them being created in a movie (which I’m sure is in the works)。 As a whole, The Maze Cutter just felt overall disorganized and other than kids going on an adventure… I couldn’t give you a real plot summary。 I definitely wasn’t left with an interest to read the next book… which it was made abundantly clear, is coming soon。 。。。more

Thank you to Netgalley as well as James Dashner, and Tantor Audio for the audio book ARC of The Maze Cutter in exchange for an honest review。 The Maze Runner was the book series that got me back into reading in 2020。 I was excited to read James’s new book because of this。 The narration of this book as well as the voices and characterization were engaging and very enjoyable。 The first half of this book was world building upon world building in a world that most of us who have read the pervious bo Thank you to Netgalley as well as James Dashner, and Tantor Audio for the audio book ARC of The Maze Cutter in exchange for an honest review。 The Maze Runner was the book series that got me back into reading in 2020。 I was excited to read James’s new book because of this。 The narration of this book as well as the voices and characterization were engaging and very enjoyable。 The first half of this book was world building upon world building in a world that most of us who have read the pervious books know quite well。 But I understand how the author had to set these books apart from the original series with the further world building。 It just felt as if it dragged a little。 It felt as if we didn’t get to the meat and potato’s of the book until the end when the story really picked up。 Over all this audiobook was enjoyable, based on the ending I will probably read the next book in the series, mostly because I love the world。 But this series doesn’t seem to have the same pull for me as the original。 It’s hard when authors put out more books in a world without a majority of the old characters that most of us grew to love。 。。。more
Richelle,
I was so excited to receive this audiobook! I really enjoyed The Maze Runner Series and Prequels。 I knew I would enjoy this and I wasn’t disappointed。 It’s a different storyline than I was expecting but I thoroughly enjoyed this for what it was。 A few things threw me off but having had an open mind I had fun with this audiobook and I would most definitely recommend it to a friend or twenty。 Thanks to NetGalley once again for this ARC。
Emily Lantzy,
**Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for this audioARC!**I wanted to love this so badly, but unfortunately it fell victim to "too much of a good thing-itis"。 I was and still am a huge fan of The Maze Runner books so obviously I was excited when I saw that a new book was coming out, and unfortunately it fell flat。 I never got a full grasp of what the plot was supposed to be and frankly the main characters seemed to be as disinterested in it all as I was。 **Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for this audioARC!**I wanted to love this so badly, but unfortunately it fell victim to "too much of a good thing-itis"。 I was and still am a huge fan of The Maze Runner books so obviously I was excited when I saw that a new book was coming out, and unfortunately it fell flat。 I never got a full grasp of what the plot was supposed to be and frankly the main characters seemed to be as disinterested in it all as I was。 。。。more
